Welcome Home!

At Méthos, we have been taking notes on moving boxes, in between freshly painted walls. Our recent fieldwork delved into the home-buying process. What does it take to buy a house? And apply for a mortgage? Subsequently, we have been thinking on how to support home-buyers throughout the entire process with the right amount of digital involvement for this complicated and cumbersome process. We’re ready for the housewarming now.

New York New York

At Méthos, we have been conducting fieldwork around the world since the beginning. We did not aim for the US in particular but we’re going to New York a lot these days! For fieldwork or, most recently, to run innovation workshops. Now we can see exactly why it has been called “the city so nice, they named it twice”!

Up in the mountains

It may look like we’re on a skiing break but what the Methos team is doing is research and immersion – as usual. We’re here in the French Alps helping our client in the hospitality sector understand its customers’ wants and needs to design an all-new programme and choice of products and services. And, of course, hitting the slopes while we’re here!

Conference

Posted 25.10.2017

This year's EPIC conference was held in Montreal. We got back together with fellow anthropologists, designers and strategists for a few days of critical thinking about our practice. An important moment for Methos’ team to reflect on what it means to be an ethnographer in or for organisations today.

Chinese Feminity

Posted 09.10.2017

In China's energetic supercities, the codes of feminine beauty are in constant transformation. Méthos is studying them closely, in collaboration with Chinese designers, to assist a French jeweller with its development and positioning in the fast-changing Chinese market.

Food for thought

Food! What we eat, why and how. These questions have been whetting Méthos teams’ appetites these few past months, during an ethnography into artisans and foodies in the land of fine dining. How we relate to food is one of the most fascinating topics of all – and unquestionably a mirror of our desires, claims, and society’s ills. You are what you eat…

Millennials

Youth lasts forever when you spend time this close to it. Méthos has had the chance to embark on a study on the 16- to 26-year-old generation, which will lead to a book of portraits of youths around the globe. Millennials are brimming with hope, very keen, confident in their abilities, buoyed by the magic of technology, and determined to conquer the world – if they haven’t already.

Co-design

Posted 09.01.2017

At Methos, the ties between ethnography, design and strategy tighten with each new project, when the "field" beckons at each stage of the process. If the distinction between "us" and "them" continues to exist for corporations, our role is to break them down as much as possible. The end of this year was particularly rich in collaborations of this sort for Methos, with several successful co-design projects.

Entrepreneurs

The entrepreneur as a homo economicus? There is clearly more to it. Méthos collaborated on a project for Flanders DC on the impact of entrepreneurship in society. Apart from being experts in their field offering excellent price, quality and service, entrepreneurs inspire us with their knowledge, passion and working ethos, which of course inspired us too! The project led to an index entrepreneurs could fill out in order to assess their impact (in Dutch).

Méthos hosts the launch of Peeps Magazine Issue #2 in our Paris office. Peeps is a wonderful magazine which brings social sciences to a larger audience. Issue #2 features the work of researchers from Méthos, about Saint Denis street in Paris and resistance to gentrification.
