A dog's life?

Posted 12.05.2013

Méthos has begun a new field of study: pets in Paris! And their owners of course. As strange as it may sound, pets have become so commonplace they are nearly a consumer trend. One looks after their health, buys them special food and even clothing. And also project upon them one's desires, a little of ourselves, as if they were an “object”. Yet pets remain animals. It is thus quite intriguing to observe where the boundaries are between the “extended self” and the animality, especially in an urban environment poorly adapted for animals.
An ethnography on pets in urban environments ... watch this space!
